MSPDP leagues normally have five tournaments per year, with an October-April schedule. Four key players are involved in executing a successful tournament: the tournament director, the host, the league president and the league's judge trainer. Tournaments have either four or five debates in a single day, with all students participating in every debate. Topics are announced at least one month in advance of the competition. Each debate has a different topic.
